Install FSR 4 with Frame Generation – Official and Unofficial Methods

Objective: Enable FSR 4 upscaling and frame generation in compatible games to improve performance and image quality.

Method 1: Official Installation (RX 9000 Series)

1. Update AMD Drivers

Install AMD Adrenalin driver v25.9.1 or newer. Open AMD Software.

2. Enable FSR 4 in Driver Settings

  1. Go to the Gaming tab.
  2. Select Graphics.
  3. Enable FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.

3. Enable FSR in the Game

Launch a DX12 game that supports FSR 3.1 (e.g., Red Dead Redemption 2). In graphics settings:

A notification will confirm FSR 4 is active. Verify using the AMD overlay.

Method 2: Unofficial Installation (All GPUs)

Warning: This uses leaked FSR 4 files. It is unsupported and may cause crashes, visual artifacts, or performance loss. Use at your own risk.

1. Download Files

2. Install OptiScaler

  1. Go to your game’s installation folder (where the .exe file is located).
  2. Copy all OptiScaler files into this folder. Overwrite if prompted.
  3. Run setup_windows.bat.
  4. When prompted:
    • Select 1 for dxgi.dll (recommended).
    • Select your GPU: 1 = AMD, 2 = NVIDIA, 3 = Intel.

3. Install FSR 4 DLL

After running the setup script, copy the FSR 4 DLL (amd_fidelityfx_upscaler_dx12.dll) into the same game folder. Overwrite the existing file.

Do not copy the FSR 4 DLL before running setup_windows.bat. This will break the installation.

4. Configure In-Game

  1. Launch the game.
  2. In graphics settings, enable DLSS or FSR and set it to Quality mode.
  3. Press Insert (or Fn + Insert on laptops) to open the OptiScaler menu.
  4. In the menu:
    • Change the upscaler to FSR 4.0.2.
    • Set Frame Generation to optfg.
    • Click Save INI and restart the game.
